In order to perform my directing role effectively, I had to look at other thriller films and deconstruct the ways the characters where directed in terms of their positioning, there body language and facial expressions and how they potrayed their characters really well. I looked in to few directors....
Mel Gibson is one of the most influential moguls in the filming industries; he is an actor, producer and director. Gibson is mainly known for his directing works for the exceptional controversial film he directed titled ‘The passion of the Christ’ (2004). Although ‘The passion of the Christ’ is a thriller subgenre which is uncommon known as a religious thriller it has the right emotions and tensed feelings I hope to direct to the actress through to the viewers. Mel Gibson also intended the idea of love, hope and forgiveness in the film, as the viewers are able to put themselves as the perspective of Jesus character. This inspired me to not just make my ideas a creative thriller, but also conclude with a message representing something. Other religious thrillers are ‘Da Vinci Code’ (2006 Ron Howard).
Kill Bill 1/2 (2003, Quentin Tarantino) who did superb at engaging the viewers through its nonlinear narrative approach which worked well for a revengeful drama, aspirations came from this film as it has a female protagonists who seeks revenge, which relates to the description of our character Rebecca.
As I was unaware of ‘Hard Candy’, (2005 David Slade) until after I wrote the 90 minute synopsis to the opening sequence. A group member pointed it out to my attention that the synopsis is familiar with this film as she has watched it before, this became an advantage as I decided to look at the way the director brought out the different characters. The main character Hayley seemed very innocent, susceptible and fragile however her personality changes to a very strong character in the film. Consequently I decided to put this idea of a frustrated fragile character of Hayley’s, into the attitude of Rebecca’s personality.
